Song Therapy Students

Our students come from all walks of life with a wide range of qualifications and life experience. Those who have enrolled in 2025 are listed below and gives some idea of what they have been up to, their experience and qualifications. We have many students in the UK and Ireland as well as others in the USA, Canada, Singapore, Sweden and Spain.

A passionate music enthusiast and community advocate. I enjoy making music as a hobby, but my true calling lies in bringing people together through the power of connection often through musical and health endeavors - hosting karaoke nights, supporting bands/musicians and promoting patient-centered wellbeing. A dedicated "music philanthropist", always looking for new ways to use music to uplift and connect communities. A deep commitment to service including years of volunteering on a NY-area ambulance squad, a Chicago-area soup kitchen, an SF Bay Area Medical Emergency Response Team and Ealing Soup Kitchen’s ESL language classes. Master’s Degree in Public Health Master’s in Business Administration working as a Programme Manager in the healthcare industry.

I'm currently a Programme Leader for a charity called Purple Patch Arts. We provide multisensory and educational workshops for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and other complex needs. In my.role I write session plans, lead 2 sessions in all four groups that I run, monitor participant progress, and mentor staff. Level 2 Adult Social Care BMus Hons Music 2:1 Majored in Popular Music Performance & Directed Ensembles. Singing for over twenty years. I also used to play the Eb Tenor Horn which was the catalyst for my musical journey.

Choir for years at school and thereafter. I also wrote music/played several musical instruments. I DJ'd in my 20's after Uni and also completed a course in music production during Covid and learned to write songs with the Song Writing Academy. I wish to add 'song' to my 'Laughter Yoga' sessions. I sing in Hindi (Bollywood classics) and English. I have worked within a large city school in Aberdeen in the music department, in the pupil support department and now more recently in a support for learning role for the past fourteen years. I am looking to create and develop more creative programmes to enhance the provision within the SFL department and this course would help deepen my understanding of the psychology of music and how it can be used to support young peoples wellbeing. Eighteen years teaching music, especially singing, ( alongside all other curriculum areas) in primary schools, leading school choirs, Music curriculum lead, 3 years as Assistant headteacher for inclusion, looking at how curriculum adaptations can make sure the whole curriculum supports the whole child inclusively so that none are disadvantaged. Performer as a singer and flautist in choirs, bands, small ensembles and as a soloist in settings including churches/ cathedrals, theatres and community projects for the last thirty years including being head chorister in charge of a junior church choir and performing in care homes.
