Choir Leader and Community Music Facilitator
My current music making
is wide and varied, with groups of all ages and stages, and individual
work as well, I lead seven choirs, all very different.
An 80 stong Women’s community chorus
A 16 voice chamber style choir
A drop in positive mental health choir
A choir for home educated kids and their parents
A workplace choir
A church choir
A Dementia friendly choir for people with dementia and their carers
I also run music groups in care homes, most recently setting up ten care
home choirs run by volunteers, following a multi sensory programme written
by myself called Musical Memories.
I run monthly community Drum Circles using African drums as I am a qualified
Rhythm to Recovery facilitator. I am working for Mindwise and have worked
for the Wave Trauma centre to deliver mental health wellnesss programmes
using singing and drumming.
In addition to these groups, I teach students on a one to one basis, in
singing for fun using a Natural Voice approach, piano, clarinet and saxophone.
I also produce corporate shows where I go into a business with a choreographer
and work with volunteers to create a stage show, all to raise money for
charity.
I also run singing workshops.
Other life experience and qualifications
I worked as a primary school teacher specialising in music for over twenty
years, before going freelance three years ago. I am a busy mum with four
daughters, acting as a permanent taxi driver and homework assistant. I
have a specific interest in Music for Mental Health benefits, and in Music
for older people.
